ST.
LOUIS DOWNTOWN AIRPORT
RECEIVES RECOVERY ACT FUNDS
Washington, April 7, 2009 - U.S. Congressman Jerry
Costello announced today that St. Louis Downtown Airport, located
in Cahokia, has received funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation
through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funds will
be used to construct an Airport Rescue and Firefighting building.
Recovery Act funds are going to “shovel ready” projects
to create jobs and stimulate the economy.
“St. Louis Downtown airport is the third busiest airport
in the state of Illinois, and this funding will enhance safety as
it continues to grow,” said Costello, Chairman of the House
Aviation Subcommittee. “We must maintain and improve our transportation
infrastructure to ensure a robust and efficient economy. This is
exactly the type of domestic investment we have neglected in recent
years, and I will continue to support these efforts.”
PROJECT
DETAILS
The
ARFF station was engineered and designed by Hanson
Professional Services, Inc. and will be constructed on vacant
land immediately west of the JetAviation terminal building. The facility
will include three drive-through equipment bays, administrative offices
and a training/conference room on the ground floor, with firefighter
living quarters on the second floor. The station design mixes classic
fire station design, complete with red doors and a fire pole, with
modern, energy-efficient function and design.
